Moscow-based Sberbank, and SAP have completed a major HR digital transformation project for the bank, based on SAP SuccessFactors cloud solution, in a move to improve the quality of the bank’s personnel management processes, in accordance with its 2020 transformation strategy.

A massive year-long project, the transition to the cloud platform has been recognised as the fastest project to deploy a cloud-based HR system of any major SAP client globally. The new platform is now used by 230,000 bank employees across Russia, with future plans to also connect all of Sberbank’s subsidiaries.

Objectives of the project included improving the quality of employee recruitment and training, achieving transparent career planning and development, creating a new model of competencies, and developing the bank’s corporate culture. The platform also reduces recruitment and onboarding time and unites Russia-based employees in a single digital space. Future plans include using information collected by the system to create new digital HR solutions such as predictive tools.

Employees can now work on personal development using the assessment tools, career planning, and online training at any time, on any device. Managers can obtain information about their teams, work with employee candidates, make employee development decisions, and view assessment scores from colleagues. Managers can also use the platform to track employee performance, assess skills and competencies, and create teams with members across multiple locations.

A key lender in Russia, Sberbank currently provides services to more than 86 million retail customers and more than 2 million corporate customers in Russia.

“Sberbank’s main aim is to reach a new level of competitiveness that will enable us to compete with global tech companies whilst maintaining our status as the number one bank for individuals and businesses,” said Yulia Chupina, deputy chairman of the executive board, Sberbank, adding that new technology will play a major part in achieving this goal.

“Sberbank’s switchover to SAP SuccessFactors is a unique project of nationwide significance,” said Nataliya Parmenova, CEO, SAP CIS. “Sberbank has demonstrated that if you have a strategy, a will, and a well-coordinated team it is possible to make transformations, regardless of the size and scale of your company.”
