SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 unveiled

By Freya Purnell

Following three years of development, SAP AG has launched the 4.0 releases of business intelligence (BI) and enterprise information management (EIM) solutions from the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio.

The new releases were launched during the SAP Run Better Tour in New York City, and bring together a range of new technology innovations, such as real-time in-memory computing, optimised for use of SAP High-Performance Analytic Appliance (HANA), cross-device mobility support and the ability to gain insights into both structured and unstructured data, on a unified infrastructure.

SAP said the consistent user experience and enhanced visualisation supports end-user requirements in a self-service fashion enabled with new versions of SAP Crystal Reports as well as BusinessObjects Explorer, BusinessObjects Dashboards, BusinessObjects WebIntelligence, and StreamWork.

The releases also integrate easily with enterprise performance management and governance, risk and compliance solutions.

On the announcement, Dr Vishal Sikka, executive board member, technology and innovation, SAP AG, said SAP had been working on these releases since BusinessObjects was acquired by SAP.

“This product is a perfect example of what the combination of these two companies has been about. By combining the beauty and the consistency – bringing in the beautiful user experience for which SAP BusinessObjects was always famous, the elegant simplicity together with the strength of SAP software, integrated identity management, SAP NetWeaver Application Server and integrated lifecycle management – we have wonderful products to share with our customers. And now with SAP HANA, we also bring the ability to analyse massive amounts of data in real time. The feedback from early customers has been tremendous.”
