SAP
AG Léo Apotheker has resigned as CEO and member of the SAP Executive Board,
effective immediately.
Neither
the company nor Apotheker have revealed why the decision was made for him not
to continue, only revealing his contract was not renewed.
In
a brief statement SAP said the board has ‘reached a mutual agreement with CEO
Léo Apotheker not to extend his contract’.
The
company will return to a co-CEO structure with Bill McDermott, head of field
organisation and Jim Hagemann Snabe, head of product development, sharing the
top job.
Both
are existing members of the SAP Executive Board.
SAP
CTO Vishal Sikka has also been appointed to the SAP Executive Board.
Hasso
Plattner, Co-Founder of SAP and Chairman of the SAP Supervisory Board will
continue to play a strong role in advising the new leaders.
“The
new setup of the SAP Executive Board will allow SAP to better align product
innovation with customer needs.” Plattner said.
“The
new leadership team will continue to drive forward SAP’s strategy and focus on
profitable growth, and will deliver its innovations in 2010 to expand SAP’s
leadership of the business software market.”
Apotheker and had been in the CEO position since 2008,
when he was announced co-CEO with Henning Kagermann. Following the retirement
of Kagermann in May 2009, Apotheker took over as sole CEO.
